Tour Description

This valley is a hidden gem, for those adventurous enough to seek it. Set between glaciers, passing giant waterfalls, we have to cross rivers to reach it, but it is more than worth it. It is named after the great god Thor, and when you see its breathtaking beauty, you will see that it deserves this title.

We will also have time to hike in the very scenic canyon of Stakkholtsgja with a nice waterfall at the end. Thorsmork is the most popular hiking area in the country and it is breathtaking to stand on top of many of the hills and mountains. Visitors cannot fail to be in awe of the raw power of nature and the beauty. On the way back from Thorsmork we will stop at the beautiful Seljalandsfoss

Highlights

Seljalandsfoss
This waterfall of the river Seljalandsá drops 60 meters over the cliffs of the former coastline. It is possible to walk behind the waterfall. 500 meters to the North West there is a another beautiful waterfall.
Gljufrabui
Gljúfrabúi is 40 meters high and partially hidden behind a large cliff which gives it a mystical aura. It can be seen in all it’s splendour by wading the river into a narrow opening in the cliff or by climbing a steep path up the cliff. Both acts can be hazardous so please exercise extreme caution.

FAQs
What should I bring on the tour with me?
Depending on the nature of your tour, you may want to pack a bit more or less than usual. If you are going to be doing some hiking or a lot of walking, it is recommended that you bring a good pair of boots that are sturdy for walking on uneven paths. The weather can also be unpredictable, so it is better if your boots and jacket are weatherproof. Refreshments will also depend on the tour. If you would like, you are welcome to bring snacks of your own, but your guide may also stop at local gas stations that offer a selection of snacks, and sometimes hot food as well.
How long are the stops on your scheduled tours? Is there time to go hiking?
The lengths of the stops are not decided in beforehand. It all depends on the group, weather, route and tour guide. You will probably be able to go on a short hike – please consult your guide.
What is the standard tip for tour guides?
Tourism in Iceland is young and there is no custom for donating tips nor is it mandatory or expected but greatly appreciated if you wish to show your appreciation in that way.
Can I bring a drone with me?
That depends on the location. Flying drones on Iceland National Parks requires a special permit. All tours in glacier outlets of Vatnajökull take place in Vatnajökull National Park, this includes all tours from Skaftafell and from Jökulsárlón. In order to fly your drone, you need to request a permission to the National Park. You can find the information on their website. Same applies for tours on Thingvellir National Park (such as Golden Circle, Golden Circle and Snorkeling, and Snorkeling in Silfra), information can be found on the National Park website website. Keep in mind there are other areas where done use is also forbidden and/or discouraged by local communities. It is safe to bring a drone to Sólheimajökull glacier without a permit. However, you need to keep in mind that we can’t delay the other members of your tour to accommodate filmmaking.
Do you offer private tours?
Yes, we most certainly do! Please contact to icelanddiscover@icelanddiscover.is with your request and we will definitely look into it and respond with the ideal tour for you and your travel group.
